Bird Walk at Sky Meadows State
Bird Walk at Sky Meadows State

LWC is partnering with the Northern Virginia Bird Club for a free bird walk for all ages at Sky Meadows State Park. The park is known for its large colony of Red-headed Woodpeckers and its diversity of birdlife. Meet in the main parking lot near the Visitor Center. The Fascinating and Beautiful World of Bird Song Join Wil Hershberger, avid naturalist, birder, and renown wildlife photographer, for a captivating audio-visual tour of bird songs. You’ll be astounded by the pleasure of bird song and by how much information birds convey in their songs. Wil is also the co-author of the well-received and beautiful book, The Songs of Insects. April 17 at Loudoun Valley High School 340 N. Maple Avenue, Purcellville Loudoun County conducts several Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) collection events throughout the year to collect used and unwanted household hazardous materials such as gasoline and household chemicals.

The Town of Purcellville is pleased to be able to provide a single event at which you can empty out your file cabinet and medicine cabinet to safely dispose of sensitive documents and old pharmaceuticals all at the same time. Last year five tons of paper was safely shredded and recycled for other uses.

Loudoun Arbor Day Celebration

The 22nd annual Loudoun Arbor Day Celebration will take place April 24, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., at Morven Park, 17263 Southern Planter Lane, just west of Leesburg. This year's free celebration will kick off with a parade at 11 a.m. followed by a ceremony featuring keynote speaker Jeff Kirwan, a retired Virginia Tech forestry professor emeritus. Also to occur will be Tree City USA acknowledgements, recognition of the Arbor Day Poster Contest winners and presentation of awards to students by Loudoun County Schools Superintendent Ed Hatrick. Food, to include barbeque, hot dogs and crab cake sandwiches, will be available. The event is organized by the Loudoun Arbor Day Committee to help educate resident about the benefits and importance of trees and to encourage tree planting.
