Piedmont Environmental Council stands with citizens to build excellent communities, relieve taxes and traffic, and protect open space in Loudoun County. We work to maintain a balance between the towns, the suburbs and the country so residents can enjoy them all.

The Goose Creek Association does its work through an active board charged with monitoring stream water quality, proposed developments, legislation, zoning changes, and other actions that have potential impact on the environment and quality of life in the Goose Creek watershed in Fauquier and Loudoun Counties, VA, and taking steps through educational forums to forestall or encourage these changes accordingly.


Loudoun Wildlife Conservancy is a local all-volunteer non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the preservation and proliferation of healthy wildlife habitats throughout Loudoun County, Virginia. While we don’t own a facility, we use local parks, sanctuaries, private refuges, libraries and community centers to hold our programs, field trips and events.


Girl Scouting builds girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place. In Girl Scouts, girls discover the fun, friendship, and power of girls together. Through a myriad of enriching experiences, such as extraordinary field trips, sports skill-building clinics, community service projects, cultural exchanges, and environmental stewardships, girls grow courageous and strong.

Loudoun County Chapter of the Izaak Walton League of America is dedicated to the promotion of the means and opportunities for educating the public to conserve, maintain, protect and restore the soil, forest, water, air, wildlife and other natural resources of the United States, in Virginia and more specifically in Loudoun County. Further, we promote the enjoyment and wholesome utilization of those outdoor resources.


Raptor Conservancy of Virginia education presentations utilize the display of live, non-releaseable raptors to inform children and adults about native wildlife, raptor rehabilitation, preservation of habitat, and respect for our wild neighbors.


The Loudoun Watershed Management Stakeholder Steering Committee is a community-based advisory body established to guide watershed planning and watershed management within Loudoun County. Among our many goals is to increase community understanding about watersheds and encourage individual and corporate stewardship by raising awareness of watershed functions, values, threats and concerns. Committee members represent 6 sectors of the Loudoun community: Agriculture, Building, Business, Conservation, Government, and Residents.



The Heritage Farm Museum is Loudoun County’s museum of agriculture. We preserve, promote and bring to life Loudoun’s rich agricultural heritage and the history of rural life. Owned by the County of Loudoun, the Museum is supported by the 501(c)3 advisory board Loudoun Heritage Farm Museum, Inc.



Loudoun Watershed Watch (LWW) is a consortium of citizen groups, local and state authorities, and individuals concerned with the quality and health of streams in Loudoun County. LWW shares a common vision with citizens across the nation: clean and safe water, and healthy aquatic ecosystems.

The Banshee Reeks Chapter of the Virginia Master Naturalist Program supports a statewide corps of volunteers providing education, outreach, and service dedicated to the management of natural resources and natural areas within communities.

Our 68 acres encompasses meadows, forests, and ponds where you’ll find a variety of wildlife and plants.


Diana’s Books is nonprofit organization whose simple mission is to rescue and reuse books. We try to do our best with each item given to us. If it is suitable for our international beneficiaries, it is sent. If it can be sold to raise funds for our mission, it is sold. We distribute books locally for free. If the book cannot be rescued, we recycle for paper. Don’t forget, during the event, if you have books, any kind, to donate bring it with you ! You also will be able to take books that you like for free !


The National Capital Lyme and Tick-Borne Disease Association strives to improve the quality of life for people suffering from Lyme and other Tick-Borne illnesses by offering support and disseminating information that educates and empowers patients, families, healthcare workers, and the community at large about these diseases. Loudoun Valley High School Environmental Explorations (EE) is a class that combines information and skills from the other sciences (earth science, biology, chemistry, and physics). Last year, the students challenged schools across the nation to improve fuel efficiency, reduce CO2 emissions, improve driving safety, and save money by adopting the enGAUGE It program and educating your community to keep tires properly inflated.


Dominion High School Environmental Explorations(EE) is a class that combines information and skills from the other sciences (earth science, biology, chemistry, and physics). It involves frequent trips outside to study and record nature. Inquiry activities and investigations will be conducted both outside and in the classroom. Some of the major concepts that will be covered include air, water, soil, biological diversity and human impacts.


The Green Team was founded in 2007 by Tracy Rossi, science teacher at Farmwell Station Middle School. The original goal was improve the recycling program at the school while learning about sustainability. In the first year, they worked mostly on improving and streamlining the recycling program and were nationally recognized for their efforts (recycling over 10,000 lbs of paper).


Sterling Middle School’s Naturalist Club has grown with enthusiastic vigor into a great club. Sponsored by Mrs. Zupko, it has more than forty members this year. We have participated in several activities this year including, a GPS treasure hunt, collecting pet food for the Pet Pantry and investigating the tracks of local wildlife.


The Loudoun County office of Virginia Cooperative Extension is your local connection to Virginia’s land-grant universities, Virginia Tech and Virginia State University.

Through educational programs based on research and developed with input from local stakeholders, we help the people of Loudoun County improve their lives.

We provide education through programs in Agriculture and Natural Resources, Family and Consumer Sciences, 4-H Youth Development, and Community Viability.



The Loudoun Soil and Water Conservation District is responsible for the conservation work within its boundaries (Loudoun County)*. The mission of the District is to provide leadership in recognizing and addressing soil and water conservation issues and problems, both existing and potential, and to promote and develop education and technical programs which will meet the agricultural and urban conservation needs of our District.

The Loudoun County Division of Waste Management

Part of the Loudoun County Department of Construction & Waste Management, the Division of Waste Management operates the county’s solid waste management facility (the landfill), oversees county recycling and hazardous waste collection programs, and responds to residents’ complaints about illegal dumping and unsafe transportation of waste materials. This agency also regulates all solid waste management facilities operating in the county to ensure protection of public health, safety and the environment.


The Virginia Department of Forestry:
Protects 15.8 million acres of forest land from fire, insects and disease.
Manages 19 State Forests and other state lands totaling 57,553 acres for timber, recreation, water, research, wildlife and biodiversity.
Assists non-industrial private forest landowners through professional forestry advice and technical management programs.


Our mission is to educate Loudoun County residents about safe, effective and sustainable landscape management practices. We are volunteers who have received extensive training under the auspices of Virginia Tech and the Loudoun County Cooperative Extension office to provide unbiased research-based horticultural information, tips, techniques and advice to the community.


The Loudoun County Public School Energy Education Team will reduce the use of energy throughout the school system without impacting the educational environment while ensuring efficient and effective stewardship of public resources. The LCPS Energy Education Team implements a transformational energy management program that was developed in partnership with Energy Education Incorporated, a firm specializing in energy management consulting for school systems.

Claude Moore Park offers a variety of activities for people of all ages. Because of Claude Moore Park’s open spaces, miles of hiking trails, pavilions, and ponds, the park hosts classes and activities that take advantage of these natural resources. Claude Moore Park encompasses 357 acres in Eastern Loudoun County in the neighborhood of Sterling, Virginia. This park is one of the last remaining green spaces in an area of housing and business development.



In May of 1959, the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors created Loudoun Water by a resolution, through the Water and Waste Authorities Act, for the sole purpose of providing water and wastewater service to residents of the unincorporated areas of Loudoun County. These areas are generally the communities east of Route 15 and south of Route 50 to the County line.
